The abundance of hypoglycemic properties in Lodhra holds high significance in alleviating the blood sugar levels of the body. The production of insulin from the pancreatic β-cells becomes active on taking the bark powder. It helps to reduce the breakdown of starch into glucose which in turn leads to low blood glucose levels.

Prevents Ulcers :

The anti-inflammatory and anti-ulcer properties of Lodhra stem hold high significance in treating different types of ulcers like ulcerative colitis, peptic ulcer, canker sores or mouth ulcers, etc. The bioactive components in the herb help in healing mouth and gastric ulcers. This effect appears contradictory to the light and drying qualities of the herb itself. However, Lodhra is a proven restorative of the metabolic system. In addition to the effect on hormonal metabolism discussed above, Lodhra has proven liver-protective function, doing this by restoring liver anti-oxidants, glutathione, super-oxide dismutase, catalase, etc. It also reduces cholesterol levels by activating cholesterol metabolism in the liver. This activity has been shown to reduce total cholesterol, LDL (“bad” cholesterol), and triglycerides while increasing HDL

Corrects Epistaxis :

Epistaxis also known as nose bleed usually occurs due to aggravation of Pitta doshas. Imbued with hemostatic and astringent properties, lodhra thickens the blood, constricts blood vessels, reduces inflammation, and thereby restricts nose bleeds.

Promotes Digestion :

Imbued with excellent carminative and digestive properties, Lodhra even helps in treating a host of digestive woes. The anti-flatulent property reduces the formation of gas in the alimentary canal, thus reducing flatulence, bloating, constipation, and abdominal distension. The potent antacid property of the herb prevents the formation of excessive acids in the stomach thereby treating indigestion, ulcer, and gastritis and promoting better absorption of nutrients in the body.

It is considered the best herb for raktapitta. Raktapitta includes all kinds of bleeding disorders like epistaxis (nasal hemorrhaging), vaginal, and anal bleeding, and piles. The reason for raktapitta is high or aggravated pitta in the blood which happens to people with dominant pitta dosha or people who eat too much acidic food resulting in the acidic pH of the body. The cool and light nature of Lodhra pacifies raktapitta and alleviates hemorrhaging and all kinds of bleeding disorders. It constricts the smaller blood vessels, controlling bleeding. It is also a great medicine for anemia.
