Devdaru plant :

Devdaru also called Deodar or Himalayan Cedar is popularly known as the ‘Wood of Gods’. All parts of this plant are used for various medicinal benefits. Devdaru helps to relieve cough by removing mucus from the respiratory tract due to its expectorant property. It might also be beneficial in managing asthma by increasing the movements of the respiratory tract due to its antispasmodic activity. Deidara might be good for diabetics as it helps manage blood sugar levels by stimulating insulin secretion. It also helps to calm the mind and improve sleep patterns thereby managing insomnia.
Devdaru oil obtained from Devdaru trees has many benefits. This oil can be applied to the body to manage fever by increasing sweating due to its diaphoretic property.
It can be applied to the joints to manage problems such as inflammation and pain related to arthritis due to its anti-inflammatory property. Devdaru oil can also be applied to wounds to prevent infections and speed up wound healing due to its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory property. Applying Devdaru leaf paste on your skin can also help prevent skin infections as well as itching due to its antifungal property.
Parts of the Plant that are Used :
- Wood, bark, and leaves have a bitter, warming taste.
- Natural Constituents of Devdaru or Deodar
- The bark and heartwood of Devdaru yield approximately 2.1% essential oils including p-himachalene, a-himachalene, o-himachalene, Himachal, and p-methyl 3-tetrahydro acetophenone. It also yields saturated hydrocarbons both straight and branched chains and flavonoids such as taxifolin, quercetin, and deodarin. The most common composition of Cedar deodara is sesquiterpenes hydrocarbons. Deodar oil contains two major sesquiterpenoids a - and ß- himachalenes, deodardione, and deodardione.
- The bark contains cedeodarin, cedrin, taxifolin, cedrinoside. The essential oil comprises of limonene, alpha terpineol, caryophyllene, eugenol, and anethole.
Acts as Natural Sedation Medicine :

The essential oil extracted from the bark of the deodar plant has soothing and sedative effects, effectively calming the brain and nervous system. Deodar oil can be taken as a medicine or massaged externally to manage anxiety, insomnia, fear, depression, and depression.
This method is widely recommended in aromatherapy. In the brain, it is involved in the process of converting the serotonin chemical known as a happy chemical into a melatonin chemical, which in turn relaxes the nerves and muscles of the body.

Alopecia areata is a term used to describe the circular baldness or occurrence of sudden hair loss in both men and women. In this case, the hair follicles start as considerable small patches and then they cause more hair loss and the formation of circular bald patches.

Devdaru helps to control cough when taken orally. A cough is a common ailment that usually happens with a cold. It is commonly known as Kapha disorder in Ayurveda. A cough is generally caused by the accumulation of mucus in the respiratory tract. Taking Devdaru helps to balance Kapha and expel excess mucus from the lungs. This is because of its Kapha balancing and Ushna (hot) potency.
Controls Fever :
“Deodar is one of the important herbs in traditional medicine which treats viral fever and acute fevers”.
The inner bark of the deodar tree should be finely powdered and prepared a decoction by boiling this bark powder in water or else making kashaya by adding some other herbal products with deodar bark powder. To rejuvenate the body, the deodar herbal drink is the best choice.
